Welcome to Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST)! Over the past three decades, we have witnessed the remarkable achievements of HKUST in research and education. Working at this leading academic department in the important strategic areas of technology and engineering for Hong Kong and mainland China, we welcome the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We must also be well-prepared for the journey to excellence in our ever-changing environment. Therefore, MAE is committed to advancing mechanical and aerospace engineering fields in the cutting-edge research disciplines of advanced materials and aerospace, green and smart manufacturing, sustainable energy systems, and manufacturing and robotics.
MAE has strong, dynamic undergraduate programs, postgraduate research programs, as well as MSc programs that have been moving forward with full momentum. I’m proud to say that it is MAE’s faculty and staff who are leading the educational and research programs with world-class teaching, research, and administrative skills. In the era of the Internet of Things, MAE is excited to keep up with recent trends by introducing elements of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data into our world-class programs.
As climate change and global warming progress at an alarming pace, engineers with sustainability mindsets are more crucial than ever. Mechanical and aerospace engineering should enable people not only to use resources in a way that does not compromise the environment or deplete what is available for future generations, but also to harness new technologies, design processes, and advanced materials for societal benefits, and to solve environmental challenges. We look forward to working closely with all our stakeholders in such endeavours while embracing the world of innovation and challenges!
